West Somerset Brass Training Band
We welcome children and adults alike who are interested in learning a brass instrument and would like to join the band. Instruments are provided and we have a full training programme in place delivered by experienced teachers. It does not matter if you do not have any prior musical knowledge, all we ask is that you are keen to learn and have a go and of course practice.
We have two intakes per year at Easter and September.
Learner Groups
The first learner group is for compete beginners and learners who have only been playing an instrument for a short while. As well as learning how to produce a wonderful sound, learners are shown how to maintain their instruments and are introduced to music theory in the form of fun activities and worksheets.
The second learner group is for learners who have progressed past the initial learning stage and who are able to play and read music more fluently. The continue to develop their musical ability and are at a stage where they are able to join in with the training band.
Training Band
The training band provides the opportunity for more advanced learners (grade 1+ standard) to play together as an ensemble and learn the ways of the brass band though playing fun and varied pieces. The training band play at engagements in their own right and join in with the senior band for the last 15 minutes of practice each week. Appointment to the senior band is by invitation of the Musical Director.
